Chiropractic Care

Chiropractic Care

You’ve probably heard this before, but your health truly is your wealth! A healthy body ensures that we are ready and able to react to our surroundings, come what may.

Since our spine is the core of our being, literally, keeping it aligned and in good working order could prevent a range of other bodily maladies. If you’ve always wondered what a chiropractor is, when you should go see one, the types of disorders chiropractic care could remedy, and where to see a Chiropractor in the upper highway area or on the Bluff, then you’re on the right page!

What does a Chiropractor do?

A chiropractor is a healthcare professional who specialises in the diagnosis and treatment of neuromuscular disorders from head to toe, with a primary focus on the spine. Chiropractic care is based on the belief that proper function of the musculoskeletal structure, particularly the spine, enables the body to heal itself usually without the need for medication or surgery.

Pain most often results from imbalances that occur between weak and tight muscles and tight joints. When these imbalances are corrected the pain resulting from them can be resolved. This may be a relatively quick process if the imbalance and dysfunction has not led to tissue damage. If it has, it may take somewhat longer to treat. In either case good resolution of pain is usually possible.

What does a Chiropractor do

Chiropractors use a variety of manual techniques, with the most common being spinal adjustments or manipulations. These adjustments involve applying controlled force to joints, particularly the spine, to improve mobility and relieve pain. Chiropractors also employ other therapeutic modalities such as massage, stretching exercises, dry needling, and lifestyle counselling to address musculoskeletal issues.

In a nutshell, this means that chiropractors use manual techniques to take muscles and joints, which aren’t functioning properly, and return them to optimal working order. This can, in turn, influence nerve function which may improve a variety of health disorders throughout the body.

Official Descriptions of Chiropractic Care

There are a few official chiropractice definitions that are used in the industry today, the most popular of which being:

World Federation of Chiropractic logo

World Federation of Chiropractic: 2001

A health profession concerned with the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system, and the effects of these disorders on the function of the nervous system and general health. Association of Chiropractic Colleges logo

Association of Chiropractic Colleges: 1996

Chiropractic is a healthcare discipline that emphasizes the inherent recuperative power of the body to heal itself without the use of drugs or surgery. The practice of chiropractic focuses on the relationship between structure (primarily the spine) and function (as coordinated by the nervous system) and how that relationship affects the preservation and restoration of health. In addition, doctors of chiropractic recognize the value and responsibility of working in cooperation with other health care practitioners when in the best interest of the patient.”

Common Complaints

Chiro for Neck Pain

Neck Pain

Issues with the neck usually stem from neck muscle tension or poor posture. Ever heard of ‘text neck’? This is a forward head posture that is caused by working on a computer, looking down at our phones, and sleeping on a pillow that is too high.

Over time, this forward head posture can permanently misalign your spine, leading to pinched nerves and serious neck pain. A chiropractor is able to remedy issues with the neck through a combination of manual neck adjustments and dry needling.

Chiro for Back Pain

Back Pain

Poor posture over time and sports injuries are two of the leading causes of back pain, something hundreds of thousands of people across the globe deal with on a daily basis. Pressure on the spine leads to misalignment, which in turn can cause health issues that include headaches, back pain, sleep issues and indigestion. Chiropractic care that includes spinal adjustments, dry needling and kinesiotaping has been shown to remedy spinal misalignment and in turn reduce chronic back pain.

Chiro for headaches and migraines

Tension Headaches & Migraines

Other than back and neck pain, the treatment of tension headaches is a chiropractor’s bread and butter.

Tension headaches and migraines are often caused by muscle tension which comes about due to back misalignment. If you have a headache that just won’t go away, book a consult

chiro for dizziness and vertigo

Vertigo & Dizziness

Feelings of dizziness and vertigo make performing even the most mundane of everyday tasks extremely difficult.

Chiropractic adjustments can target joints and vertebrae that might not be moving correctly, fixing the body’s natural balance and reducing the prevalence of cervical vertigo episodes.

Chiro for Sports Injuries

Sports Injuries

Sports injuries are one of the leading causes of spinal misalignment. Regardless of the sport, fast movements executed incorrectly can pinch nerves, damage muscles and in some cases even do damage to the skeletal system

A sports chiropractor offers chiropractic care that includes routine kinesio taping, manual adjustments and acupuncture to ensure players of sports keep their bodies in good shape and performing at its peak! Dr Mark Aaron often treats sportsmen and women (runners, golfers, rugby & hockey players) who are not in pain but undergo treatments to give them a competitive advantage or to prevent injury.

Chiro for Poor Posture

Family Worries

Are your children’s pillows causing damage to their posture? Could your husband’s snoring be more than just a sign of deep sleep?

Children suffer from back pain, headaches and leg pain too – often caused by playing sport and spending too much time on smart phones and tablets.

Family chiropractic care involves manual adjustments, dry needling and kinesio taping where needed – with a primary focus on the chiropractor delivering sound health advice on issues including posture, nutrition, fitness and sleep affecting all members of the family, big or small.

Chiro for Inflammation

Body Inflammation

Inflammation causes tension, joint issues and chronic pain.

Chiropractic adjustments are able to reduce bodily inflammation which brings lower back pain relief, relief of joint pains, and reduction in muscular tension throughout the body.

Sufferers of arthritis or auto-immune diseases that cause inflammation in the body can benefit from chiropractic care.

Chiro for Scoliosis

Scoliosis

Scoliosis is a condition characterised by an abnormal curvature of the spinal column, occurring most often during pre-pubescent growth spurts.

Scoliosis causes chronic pain, a reduction in your range of motion, breathing issues and abnormal posture. A combination of chiropractic care and physical therapy helps to prevent the progression of scoliosis.
