What is Chiropractic Medicine?

According to the World Federation of Chiropractic, chiropractic medicine is:

“A health profession concerned with the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system, and the effects of these disorders on the function of the nervous system and general health. There is an emphasis on manual treatments including spinal adjustment and other joint and soft-tissue manipulation.”

How do I work as Chiropractor?

Our modern day life does not predispose us to good body mechanics and health. Stress and injury are often important factors in our pain. One of the biggest additional factors is poor posture. Sitting in front of computers, steering wheels, cell phones and TV’s for long hours leads to imbalances such as tight or weak muscles and restricted joints. These factors can lead to typical problems such as:

  1. Sports injuries
  2. Spinal pain
  3. Headaches
  4. Carpal tunnel syndrome
  5. Tennis elbow
  6. Hip arthritis
  7. Heel pain
  8. Dizziness
  9. Nerve pressure – tingling and numbness
  10. And many more

My job is to identify which muscles are tight and which are weak, to correct those imbalances and release the corresponding tight joints. When these imbalances are corrected the pain resulting from them can be resolved. This may be a relatively quick process if the imbalance and dysfunction has not lead to tissue damage. If it has, it may take somewhat longer to treat. In either case we can normally help

Don’t wait in pain any longer – Book your appointment today!

What treatments do I use?

Joints and muscles cannot function independently. If the joint becomes restricted then the muscles associated with that joint will become weak or tight, and vice-versa.  Therefore, we usually have to treat both the joints and the muscles. The treatments I often use are:

  1. Manipulation – restores correct joint motion
  2. Dry needling – releases tight muscle spots and increases blood flow
  3. Soft tissue therapy – release tight muscle spots
  4. Exercises – strengthens the weak muscles and stretches the tight ones
  5. Strapping – supports injured or painful areas
  6. Advice – this is important to prevent the same problem reoccurring.
